John Prizeman was born and raised in Ilford, Essex, England.
He studied graphic design and art at Newham College in London where his artwork was exhibited in student shows and where he won best in show awards.
John worked as an Art Director in two prominent London advertising agencies,
George Cummings Associates and London Progressive Advertising where he again won awards for a Citroen Automobile advertisement and a Swan Vesta matches bus side.
John came to the United States in his mid 20s and took a job as an Art Director in a top New York City advertising agency, Jack Tinker and Partners.
He continued to work in the advertising industry for many years and won an award for a Pepsi Cola billboard.
Beyond his advertising career, he always pursued his love for painting and drawing in his art studio within his Brooklyn Brownstone and has continued to show his work both there and in galleries.
John sees beauty in what others might regard as ordinary. While his painting style uses a realistic approach, he applies principles of design to abstract from pure realism. John sometimes uses the subject as its own medium, for example, when a fire engulfed a local hotel, John took the resulting embers of charcoal to draw a series of fires and firefighters' efforts to save the local institution.
Using oil and canvas, his subjects range from nature's beauty to objects found in his surroundings.
John's paintings contain a unique combination of realistic and graphic elements, which he feels complement each other, creating dimension and inviting the viewer to take a deeper interest.
Many of John's paintings have been exhibited in art galleries and studio workshops in London, Switzerland, Japan, New York, Massachusetts, Florida, and Michigan.
John currently lives in Brooklyn, NY, and during the summer, he enjoys his home in Long Island when he's not traveling with his wife for fresh inspiration.
